Nevin C. "Jiggs" Barley

YORK- Nevin C. “Jiggs” Barley, Jr., 86, died on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of Sarah Jane (Beck) Barley, to whom he was married for 45 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with his pastor, the Reverend James E. Winter, Sr. officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery with honors provided by the York City Police Department. Born on November 2, 1930 in Dallastown, he was a son of the late Carl and Nadine (Mitzel) Ruth. Nevin was a York City Police Officer for 28 years until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Barley served our country in the U.S. National Guard. He was a member of the former West York Missionary Church. Nevin was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the 13th Ward Political Club and a member of the Dallastown American Legion Post 605. In his spare time, Nevin loved to golf. Along with his wife, Sarah, Nevin is survived by two sons, Carl Barley and wife, Sue of York New Salem and Gerald J. Sweeney and wife, Melissa of York; four daughters, Pamela Bowser of Springettsbury Twp., Lisa Miller and husband, Danny of Seven Valleys, Jeri Ann Kinsley and husband, Chris of Seven Valleys and Justine Barley and husband, Dennis of York; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanie Bentzel and husband, Donald of York.
