EAST TROY- Nellie A. (Rockwell) Dickerson, 100, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Edward Laverne Dickerson who passed away on July 21, 1962. Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday night, January 23, 2007 and again from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning, January 24th at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Garry Zuber officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, PA. Nellie was born on September 13, 1906 in Troy Township, Bradford County, PA. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Minnie (Van Horn) Rockwell. Nellie was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1924. After high school she attended the Mansfield Normal School, now Mansfield University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Nellie taught school in Ellenton, Shunk and for the Troy Area School District, only taking time out to raise her three children. She retired from the school system in 1972, but never really retired from teaching. She spent her whole life teaching, loving, and caring for her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Troy, but attended the East Troy Baptist Church for the last 30 years. To Nellie family was everything. They include her son Arthur E. (Johann) Dickerson of Troy, PA, her daughter Janice M. (Kenneth W.) Sheive of Millerton, PA, her eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, and her son Gerald L. Dickerson who passed away on January 28, 1963.
