Nancy L. (Merkle) Spence

York—Nancy L. (Merkle) Spence, 62, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Jack Spence. A celebration of life service will be held private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born March 5, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of John F. and Dorothy L. (Makin) Merkle. She was a graduate of Eastern High School and Baltimore Junior College with an Associate Degree in Business. She was employed with FCI Electronics as a Secretary for over 25 years and a member of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, where she enjoyed singing in their choir. She enjoyed helping others through her volunteer work at ACCESS York, Hospice of Lancaster County, and York County SPCA. She was awarded the Citizenship Award in 1991 for the planning and coordination of a ceremony honoring the troops who served our country during Operation Desert Storm. Mrs. Spence is survived by one son, Michael S. Faul of York, one daughter, Stacey M. Beaverson of York, two grandchildren, Selena Beaverson, and Saleen Faul, and one brother, Robert Merkle of Florida.
