MILTON - Nancy Jayne (Meyers) Minnich, 91, of 32 South Turbot Ave., died at 11:45 a.m. September 8, 2008 at Kramm Healthcare Center, Milton. She was born on June 1, 1917 in Johnstown and was a daughter of the late Millard D. and Mary (Horner) Meyers. On June 21, 1941, she had married James W. Minnich, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1969. Nancy's family moved to the Milton area when she was a girl and she had graduated from Milton High School in 1935. She had also attended Indiana State Teachers College. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 70 years, sherved as a member of the Altar Guild for almost 50 years, served six years on the Church Council as council secretary and was employed in the church office earlier in her life. Nancy worked as a receptionist and X-ray technician in the office of Milton physician John S. Packard, M.D. In 1965, she began her career as the social editor of the Milton Standard Journal, from which she retired in 1985. Following her retirement, she continued to contribute by writing the "In Retrospect" column. Nancy enjoyed research and she helped local authors Frank Krause, Homer Folk and George Venios. An ardent community servant, Nancy was a Republican Committee Woman in Milton's First Ward for 20 years and had served on the election board in the Second Ward for several years. She served on the boards of the Milton chapter of the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, the United Way and the Milton Public Library. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Brownie Girl Scout Leader. Nancy will also be missed by numerous bridge clubs. Nancy's true gift was bringing cheer to others. She was a lifeline for a score of friends and acquaintances. She saw her friends and relations through hard times with her sense of humor and tireless efforts on their behalf. Nancy is survived by one son; James W. "Jim" Minnich, Jr. and his wife Priscilla of Ocean City, MD, two daughters; Martha J. "Marty" Noeller and her husband Harold of Largo, FL and Shirley K. McBryan of Sunbury, six grandchildren; Sherry Piirainen of West Paris, Maine, Charles "Chuck" Minnich and his wife Linda of Columbia, MD, Brian Kirkner and his wife Amelia of Atlanta, GA, Darren Kirkner of Largo, FL, Rae Welling of Lascassas, TN and Benjamin "Ben" McBryan of Turbotville, five great grandchildren, one son-in-law; Thomas "Tom" McBryan of Sunbury and several nieces and nephews, including one niece who was named after her; Susan Nancy Wirth of West Milton. In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by one daughter; Karen Ann Minnich, one brother; James Meyers, three sisters; Sarah Ohl, Bette Beightol and Mary Meyers and one nephew; Bob Beightol. There will be a public viewing Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Mahoning Street, Milton, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Barbara Jean Collins will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the Milton Cemetery, Milton. Arrangements are being handled by the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA 17847.
