Myrtle A. (Ritter) Ward

YORK – Myrtle A. (Ritter) Ward, 78, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late Gordon E. Ward, Jr. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Pastor Tracy Connor officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Born September 9, 1932 in York, a daughter of the late John and Sue (Gunnett) Ritter, she graduated from William Penn Senior High School and had retired from the former Campbell Chain Co. Mrs. Ward loved sewing, baking, and tending to her cats. She was very active with her children’s activities and enjoyed helping backstage during dance recitals and serving as a “classroom mom.” She could always be found taking care of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ward is survived by two daughters, Susan and husband Steve Bachant of York and Lynn and husband Lee Messersmith of Dover; a son, Ken Myers, Jr. and wife Marie of Dover; four grandchildren, Tanya and Randy Messersmith, Erika Keckler, and Crystal Myers; eight step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Genavee, Hailey, Olivia, Madison; 19 step great grandchildren; seven step great great grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert and Leroy Ritter both of York. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina A. Ward; a son, Philip Myers; four brothers, Henry, Martin, Raymond, and Paul Ritter; and two sisters, Ruth Frey and Anna Wagaman.
