Myrtle A. (Leader) Gladfelter

YORK - Myrtle A. (Leader) Gladfelter, 97, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services- Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Harry L. Gladfelter to whom she was married 53 years before Harry’s passing in 2000. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, with her Pastor, The Reverend Kevin L. Becker, officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born January 20, 1919 in Springfield Township, Myrtle was a daughter of the late Jesse K. and Sadie E. (Doll) Leader. She was a farmwoman and lived for God, family and the caring of the earth. She is known for her love of baking, fastnaughts, sauerkraut and flowers. In her early years you could find her at the Farmer’s Market on South Duke Street, selling the family vegetables, noodles, needlepoint and baked goods. Mrs. Gladfelter is survived by two sons, David Gladfelter and his wife Connie of Seven Valleys and Dean Gladfelter and his wife Susan of York; a daughter, Joyce Shearer of Seven Valleys and her estranged husband Frank of York; five grandchildren, Stefanie (Gladfelter) Williams and her husband Mark, Crystal (Gladfelter) Drinkut and her husband Joseph, Tanya (Gladfelter) Noye and her husband T.J., Bryan Shearer and his wife Kelly and Justin Gladfelter and his wife Becky; nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Eugene Leader and Harry Doll Leader, and three sisters, Dorothy Melinda Shearer, Mary Edna Howdyshell and Ruth Marie Leader, and three infant grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, PA 17407.
