BROGUE - Msgt. James E. Hileman, Jr., U.S. Army Ret., died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Karen J. (Klepper) Hileman, to whom he was married 53 years on March 20, 2008. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Anne-Rose Reeves, officiating. Full military honors will be presented at the funeral home by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Born May 22, 1934, in Waterstreet, Pa., a son of the late Rebecca E. (Owens) and James E. Hileman, Sr., he was a 1952 graduate of Kreutz Creek Joint Jr./Sr. High School. Following high school, Mr. Hileman joined the U.S. Army where he ascended to the rank of Master Sergeant. As a Korean Conflict and Vietnam War veteran, he retired in 1972 after serving 20 years. Mr. Hileman then worked another 15 years at Ft. Meade. Mr. Hileman was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion, Red Lion VFW, York County Corvette Club, Collinsville Fish and Game, York Archers, Eastern Mushroomers', and the Super Group which is comprised of military retirees. He was also a former member of Hellam VFW and Brogue Lions Club. In addition to his memberships, he enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing, woodworking, swimming, working on his corvettes, ham radios, gardening, cooking, playing bridge, and supporting his favorite Philadelphia professional sports teams. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hileman is survived by a daughter, Rachelle R. and husband, Robert Smith of Dallastown; four sons, Rian S. and wife, Karen Hileman of Rock Hill, S.C., James N. "Pete" and wife, Candance Hileman of Inwood, W.Va., Gregory B. and wife, Marianne Hileman, and Perry I. and wife, Sonia Hileman, both of Red Lion; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Michael, P.J., Katy, Shannon, Heather, and John; four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Makayla, Janina, and Bradley; a brother, Ivan G. and wife, Rebecca Hileman of Thomasville; a sister, Jane R. and husband, Robert Merrill of York; his hunting buddy nephews, Phillip and Oliver Merrill; additional nieces and nephews; and other young men who referred to him as "Uncle Jim" at hunting camp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1023 15th St. NW, Washington, DC 20005. Our eternal gratitude to his nurses and doctors at Cancer Care at Apple Hill who cared fro Jim the past 12 years during his fight against leukemia. Their kindness went above and beyond...and will never be forgotten by our family members. Also, we are very grateful to the nurses at the York Hospital for their kindness to Jim and the courteous treatment we received.
