Monte R. Poff

RED LION – Monte R. Poff, 61, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Donna R. (Posey) Poff to whom he was married for nine years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his pastor, The Rev. Kevin L. Becker officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. The family requests that all of Monte’s friends and family dress casually for the tribute service. Born July 3, 1953 in York, a son of R. Jean (Smith) Poff of York and the late Edward C. Poff, he was a 1971 graduate of Dallastown Area High School. Mr. Poff had been a truck driver at Harley Davidson, Inc. for 27 years until his retirement and most recently drove for Specialty Industries, Inc. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Dallastown American Legion, and both Hellam and Red Lion VFW. Monte enjoyed spending time hunting at his cabin in Cherry Springs, Potter County. He loved traveling with Donna and going to dirt track races. In addition to his wife, Mr. Poff is survived by a son, Jedd R. Poff of Shrewsbury; three daughters, Addie J. Poff of Waldorf, MD, Tammy L. and husband Mike Taylor of Brogue, and Heather L. Smeltzer and companion Justin Sierer of York; four granddaughters, Jayd, Makaya, and Taryn Taylor, and Bryn Smeltzer; two brothers, Craig E. and wife Nancy Poff and Alan C. and wife Wanda Poff both of York; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend who he treated as a brother, Greg Bortner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Penn-Mar Human Services, 10709 Susquehanna Trail, Glen Rock, PA 17327.
