Avoca - Monica B. Mazur, 87, of Moosic passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. Born in Scranton, July 26, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Barbara (Kederis) Chaplauskas. She was a graduate of Central High School, Scranton, and was employed at W.T. Grant. Prior to retiring, she worked at the Globe Store in Scranton for 19 years. Monica was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mazur, in 1977, as well as sisters Catherine Babcock, Jean Kovat, Anne Sammons, Marion Schroeder, Albina Marcinkevege; and brothers, Anthony and Albert Chaplauskas. Surviving are her son, Joseph M. Mazur, Moosic; a daughter Gladys A. Monahan and her husband, Eugene, Sandy Hook, CT; grandchildren, Lisa Burton and her husband Rob, Brian Monahan and his wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Haley and Ryan Burton; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:00 am from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Mary's Church, Avoca. The Reverend Phillip Sladicka will officiate. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
