Miriam R. (Stough) Quickel

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP- Miriam R. (Stough) Quickel, 83, of York, died at home of natural causes. She was the wife of the late Thomas L. Quickel, to whom she was married for 61 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Rd. in York, with her pastors, The Reverend Paul W. and the Reverend Sara A. Gausmann, officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul's (Wolf's) Union Cemetery in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Quickel was born in York on November 27, 1925, the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Flora R. (Eyster) Stough. She was a 1944 graduate of West York High School. She attended York Hospital Nursing Program and worked for Dr. Morgan for many years. She also worked for York Bank and Trust Company for 15 years. She was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in York, where she briefly played the organ, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Alter Guild, and was active in sewing quilts for the missions. She enjoyed doing puzzles, walking, and was devoted to her family and her faith. She volunteered at the Lutheran Home of York, enjoyed travelling with her husband and was active in Thomasville Senior Citizens. Mrs. Quickel is survived by two sons, Pastor Thomas L. Quickel, Jr. of Bristol, TN And Ray Quickel of York; three grandchildren, Andrea M. Tomes, Mark Thomas Quickel, and Daniel P. Quickel; three step grandsons, Michael, Stuart, and Christopher Goyne; a great grandson, Grant Thomas Tomes; and a brother, Clyde L. Stough of Dover. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Rd., York, PA 17404.
