TROY, PA Minnie Shepard of Towanda PA went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2011. She was born in Cherrytown, Huntington County, PA the daughter of the late Melchior and B. Agnes (Smith) Summers. As a small child she moved with her family to Bradford County, where she lived most of her life in the Troy and Canton area. Minnie was a graduate of Troy High School. She and her late husband Dean were married July 15, 1931 and celebrated seventy years of marriage prior to his passing in 2001. Minnie was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed outdoor life, reading and traveling. Her interests included poetry, family history, and American history. Minnie was a member of the Grover Church of Christ and a former member of both the Troy and Canton Senior Citizens Clubs. She enjoyed the many bus tours she traveled with both groups. Minnie is survived by her three children, Don Shepard of Sylvania, PA, Virginia and Paul Shapiro of Towanda, PA and Rosemary Funnell of Cleveland, OH, her grandchildren, David and Pamela Shapiro of Farmington Hills, MI, Roger and Lynda Shapiro of Ewing, NJ, William and Lisa Shapiro of Boca Raton, FL, and Nathan and Jennifer Shapiro of Silang, Cavite, The Philippines, twelve great-grandchildren, her brother, Ralph Summers of Canton, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. Minnie was predeceased by her parents, husband Dean in 2001 and little daughter Verna Ann. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 AM to 12 Noon, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Her funeral will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 12 Noon with Pastor James Crupi of the Christian Faith Fellowship Church, Elmira, NY officiating. Committal services will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, PA. You may make a donation in Minnies name to the Church of your choice. Or you may honor her memory by contributing to the Memorial (Towanda Hospital) Chapel Fund. The purpose of this fund is to create a sacred space which is inviting, inclusive and inspirational.
