New Oxford—Millard H. “Bud” Wolfgang Jr., 92, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Cross Keys Village the Brethren Home Community. He was the loving husband of Ruth H. (Hershey) Wolfgang to whom he was married for 71 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Nicarry Meeting House in the Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Donald Hubbell officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, Sunday in the Nicarry Meeting House. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born March 14, 1919 in York, he was the son of the late Dora (Bortner) Wolfgang and Millard H. Wolfgang Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at and was a partner in Wolfgang’s Shoe and Sporting Goods Store until his retirement in 1978, after which he worked part-time at P.A.D.E. He was a longtime member of the Free & Accepted Masons - Zeredetha Lodge #451, York Gethsemane Commandery #21, York Royal Arch Chapter #199, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, York Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon #30, York County Shrine Club, Zembo Temple, Hawks Gunning Club, Daniel Boone Hunting Club, American Legion – Pleasureville, a charter member of Springettsbury Lions Club, and a member of First Church of the Brethren, where he belonged to the Home Builders Sunday School class. His leisure activities included hunting, fishing, swimming, ice skating, and boating with family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Millard H. “Skip” Wolfgang III and wife, Sherry of Big Pine Key, FL; a daughter, Nancy W. Anthony and husband, Bernard of York; brother, Donald E. Wolfgang and wife Jane; brother-in-law, Jacob B. Hershey and wife, Esther; sister-in-law, Rhea Grissinger and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Rd, York, Pa 17402 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 2449 S. Queen Street, York, Pa 17402 or The Brethren Home Foundation, Good Samaritan Fund, 2990 Carlisle Pike, P.O. Box 128, New Oxford, Pa 17350. The Family is very grateful for the excellent, loving, compassionate care that Bud received from the staff at The Brethren Home Community and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice.
