Mildred E. (Kirby) Chappell

Watch Video Tribute: YORK Mildred E. (Kirby) Chappell, 82, formerly of Brookhaven, passed away at 12:02 pm on July 7, 2009 at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on May 11, 1927 in Philadelphia. She had a beautiful marriage to William I. Chappell, Jr. for 37 years until his death in 1984. Millie is survived by a daughter, Darlene A. Bailey and her husband, Thomas A. Bailey, Jr. her granddaughter, Debbie Rutter and her husband, Todd, and grandson, Thomas A. Bailey, III. Great grandchildren, Kyle and Adam Rutter, Elizabeth Bailey, and Katlynn Norris, all of York. She was blessed to have many nieces and nephews and a loving church family. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy A. Bailey who died January 1, 2009. In addition, her parents, Sara Carrow and William Kirby, a step father, Joe Doonan, two brothers, William and Harry Kirby, three sisters, Eleanor Francisco, Verna Crowley, Jane Zehner. She was a former member of Upland United Methodist Church in Upland, PA where she and her husband service in many roles and a current member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church, York where she enjoyed her Sunday School class and church activities. Throughout her life she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, loved roller skating, bowling, playing bingo, going shopping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd, York, with the Rev. Justin E. Inners, officiating. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Burial will be held in Chester Rural Cemetery, at 2 p.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements.
