Michael T. Mccoy

MILL HALL - Michael T. McCoy, 65, formerly of Centre County, PA, passed away due to complications of early Onset Alzheimer's, on Sunday, June 14, 2015. Born in Oakland, CA, Michael is greatly missed and deeply mourned by his sister, Patricia, in California, his brother, Gordon, in Nevada, his half brother, Walter, in Georgia, several cousins, his two devoted children, Melody, 36, and Thomas, 34, of Grugan Township, PA, and 7 grandchildren that he adored. Michael was surrounded with love, security, and family at his home in the time before his passing. Mr. McCoy, a 1969 State College HS graduate, had been the civilian Unit Administrator for the State College center for the United States Army Reserve, and many other Clinton, Lycoming, and Centre county USAR centers, until disability, and early retirement in 2008. Prior to separation from active duty he focused his efforts, receiving numerous commendations and awards for exemplary service. In the 1970's he was a blur around the flat track, racing motorcycles as part of the Yamaha factory team, burning around tracks across the country until his teammate and friend, Mike Bird, was killed in a racing accident. Michael kept in touch with the Bird family, visiting over these many years. Michael's children extend their sympathy, as the Birds welcomed him as part of their family. Michael played guitar. He was thrilled and so proud of his son, Tom, who has become a talented guitar player, learning quickly at 15 years old, as Michael taught him during a particularly cold PA winter. Always encouraging a love of music as a doting grandfather, he gifted guitars, and other instruments, to each of his grandchildren. Melody and Thomas express their most heartfelt gratitude, and deepest sympathy, to Connie Houser for her 15+ years of devotion, companionship, and wonderful, loving care of their father. Also, many thanks for all the encouragement, and assisting in their efforts to care for their dad in the comfort and privacy of his own home, and deepest condolences to Rebecca Conley and the entire Mills family, of Port Matilda, PA, John Kuhn and his wife, LaVita, of Centre county, PA, and Ladd Huffman, of O'brien county, IA. The many years of friendship Michael shared with you all were filled with good times. He very fondly recalled those sacred memories. A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the McCoy family. Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall has charge of arrangements.
