Michael Szeremeta

Northumberland- Michael Szeremeta, 86, of Northumberland, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Evangelical Community Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Closson) Szeremeta. Michael was born June 16, 1921 in Newark Valley, NY, a son of the late Tony and Julia (Malatski) Szeremeta. He attended Newark schools and graduated from the Essex County Vocational School of NJ in 1940 with a degree in Mechanical Drafting. Michael is a WWII veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Navy. He received the American Theatre Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. While in the Navy, he graduated from Aviation Ordinancemen's School (1943) and Bombsight School (1949). He married Mary E. Closson on July 17, 1965. Michael was employed with Tenney Engineering, Inc. as an engineer until his retirement in 1987. A daughter-in-law, Mary Varanko, survives Michael. His brothers, Peter and Frank Szeremeta precede him in death. A viewing will be 6 to 8pm, Friday at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, Inc., 125 N. Front St., Milton where the Milton-Northumberland Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Detail. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Union, NJ.
