Michael Leon Reid, Sr.

WILKES-BARRE- Michael Leon Reid, Sr., 57, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in New York City on November 15, 1956, he was a son of Betty (Hines) Reid of Scranton and the late Nathan Reid. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Michael relocated his family in 2001 to Wilkes-Barre, PA and was employed at Blue Cross of NEPA as a administrative assistant in the Pharmacy Reimbursement Department. Michael was a sports lover and was an avid fan of the New York Knicks and the New York Jets. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan Reid, Jr. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years, the former Patricia “Pat” Astwood; his sons, Michael Leon Reid, Jr., New York City and Jamarr Reid, Wilkes-Barre; his daughter, Trenaya Michelle Reid, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Jade Reid, Jamarr Reid, Jr., Justus Reid, Marcus Reid and Mo’nae Lenaya Reid; brothers, Kenneth Reid, Anthony Reid, Nauture Reid, Reginald Jones and Steven Reid; sisters, Donna Reid and Lateef Reid; a host of nieces and nephews. Home Going Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with Bishop Wallace E. Smith of New Covenant Christian Fellowship officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors.
