Michael L. Foster, Sr.

Michael Lee Foster, Sr., 64, of Pocono Lake passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. An interment service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA, with full military honors. Chaplain U.S. Army Col. (Ret.) Ron Miller will be officiating the service. The Dale Ranck Cremation and Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, in Milton is in charge of arrangements. Born August 31, 1953 in Bath, New York, Michael was the son of Harold J. and Phyllis M. (Teribury) Foster. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant and Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Army Engineer Corps. Staff Sergeant Foster was a drill sergeant at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He was twice awarded the Army Commendation Medal, and earned the Humanitarian Service Medal for his work in the Marshall Islands with the Enewetak Atoll Atomic Debris Cleanup. Since retiring from the service in 1992, Michael has worked as a Tac Officer for the NYMA. He was also the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #4049 in Troy, PA. In addition to his parents, Harold and Phyllis Foster of East Smithfield, Michael is survived by his significant other Kathy L. Friend of Pocono Lake; two sons, Michael L. Foster, Jr. and wife, Brittany of Pittsburgh, and Christopher L. Foster of Lebanon; granddaughter, Lilliana R. Foster; brother, David A. Foster of Waverly, NY; and two sisters, Patty F. Childs of East Smithfield, and Tammy L. Ostrander and husband, Ron of Newfield, NY. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, U.S. Army Major (Ret.) Craig S. Childs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Michael Foster, Jr., 8834 Broadway St., Westmoreland City, PA 15692.
