YORK- Michael J. Sheaffer, 71, died on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Schimmel) Sheaffer. The couple wed on November 21, 1964. A memorial mass will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market St., York with the Reverend Fr. Thomas R. Hoke officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sheaffer was born on March 28, 1939 in Hanover, a son of the late Robert M. and Agnus C. (Bunty) Sheaffer. Michael was co-owner of Sheaffer Appraisal Service, Inc. in Hanover. Mr. Sheaffer was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Besides his family and grandchildren, Michael's greatest love was his cabin in Lycoming County where he enjoyed feeding bears, hunting and fishing. Over the years he went on many hunting and fishing excursions to the northwest United States, Canada and Alaska. He was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School where he played football. He graduated from both York Junior College as well as Millersville University. Michael also enjoyed local high school wrestling, singing with his brothers, and was an avid Penn State Football fan. Along with his wife Barbara, Mr. Sheaffer is survived by two sons, Dr. James Sheaffer and his wife, Laura of York and Matthew Sheaffer of York; one daughter, Leigh Materazzi and her husband Jeffery of Coatesville; four grandchildren, Lindsay Sheaffer, Maria Sheaffer, Andrew Sheaffer, and Jillian Materazzi; four brothers, William M. Sheaffer and his wife, Dottie of Hanover, Patrick J. Sheaffer and his wife, Jeannie of Hanover, Christopher J. Sheaffer and his wife Ellen of Hanover, and David A. Sheaffer of New Oxford; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sheaffer; and a sister, Connie Sheaffer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.
