Brogue—Michael D. Hess Jr., 86, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at his residence in Brogue. He was the husband of the late June K. (Steinkamp) Hess. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, with the Rev. Fr. Charles L. Persing, of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dallastown, officiating. Viewings will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided at the funeral chapel by the York County Veterans Honors Guard. Born May 16, 1923 in York, he was a son of the late Michael D. Hess Sr, and Mildred E. (Pryor) Hess. He was employed as a York City Police Officer for 17 years and later worked at the Rooster Club in York as a cook. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Red Lion V.F.W-Post 1446, 13th Ward Political Club, was formerly a member of the Rescue Fire Company and enjoyed deep sea fishing. Mr. Hess is survived by three sons, Michael D. Hess III, of Brogue, Earl M. Hess of Hershey and Bruce J. Hess of York, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Estella DeBurkhart, Dorothy Shetrone, and Edith Carter, all of York, a companion Mary E. Dent of York and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
