RED LION- Michael D. Gladden, 63, died on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from ongoing complications after being hit by a vehicle. He was the husband of Jeannie (Stokes) Gladden. The couple planned to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on June 18th. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Pastor Sheldon Monson officiating. A visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born on August 11, 1950 in Peru, Indiana, he was the son of the late Thomas and Joyce (Dancey) Gladden. Michael graduated from Purdue University. He was a mathematics teacher for Baltimore County Board of Education for over 40 years and coached track there for 35 years. He also was a minister. Mr. Gladden was a member of the Church of God Ministries International and the Living Church of God. Michael enjoyed roller coasters and amusement parks, hiking and sports, especially the Baltimore Ravens. He was a kind and gentle man who cared deeply for his family, foster family, children and Jesus Christ. Along with his wife, Jeannie, Michael is survived by one daughter, Emily Joyce Gladden of Lancaster; two stepdaughters, Jessica Jean Mapes and her companion, Adam Martin Junkins of Edwards, CO and Elizabeth Catherine French and her husband, Jonathan of El Segundo, CA; five grandchildren, Sierra Love Johns, Adesson Fury Mapes-Junkins, Katherine Joel French, Gwyneth Elise French and Claire Marie French; and a niece, Savannah Israel Stokes.
