Meta C. Manley

Meta C. Manley, age 92, of Troy, PA went peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013, at her home. Meta was born on October 4, 1920, in Tuscarora Township (Stevensville), Bradford County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Arthur and Fannie (Giffin) Carter. She shared a birthday with her only sibling, Irene. She graduated from Camptown High School in 1938. Meta attended the former Del Ke Der Beauty School graduating as a hairdresser. Her granddaughters have fond memories of having their grandmother cut their hair in her kitchen when they visited. Meta worked at J.C. Penney in Troy for most of her adult life and retired after many years to spend time with her beloved husband and family. On June 16, 1943, Meta married William P. Manley at the First Baptist Church of Troy. They raised two children; daughter Carol Lynne and son, Donald. Her husband, Bill, passed away in 1996. Meta and Bill enjoyed traveling together and often included their grandchildren in their adventures. Their profound love for each other was always very apparent to those they came in contact with. Meta was a member of Eastern Star, Study Club, and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She found great joy in receiving photographs and hearing the stories that her children and grandchildren had to share. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family. Surviving are daughter Carol Lynne Manley Wendel and spouse David of Sanford, ME and their children, Michelle Dumont and her husband Michael and Laurel Long and her husband Scott of Maine; son Donald Manley and spouse Nancy of Lititz, PA and their children, Nicholas, Christopher, and Alyssa; four great-grandchildren, Nathan and Samantha Dumont, and Julia and Scotty Long. Funeral services will be held at The First Baptist Church, 579 Canton Street, Troy, PA on Monday, February 18th. Visitation will be from 10:00am – 11:00am. The service will begin at 11:00am with Reverend Garry Zuber officiating. A private family burial is planned in Glenwood Cemetery. The Gerald W.
