Mervin R. Smith

YORK- Mervin R. Smith, 86 passed away on August 22, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services Kingston Court in York. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Wolf) Smith. The couple celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on April 18th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 1-2 p.m. York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide full military honors at the start of the service at the funeral home. The Reverend Kathy Harvey Nelson, pastor of Salem United Methodist Church, Windsor will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Salem Community Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born April 12, 1930, a son of the late Mervin C. and Sadie P. (Tome) Smith. He retired from Campbell Chain in York where he was a machine operator. Mr. Smith was a member of Yorkanna Gun Club and he served in the US Army in the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and was a NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Smith leaves two daughters, Beth A. Gibbs and her husband Keith of Red Lion, Lori A. Smith and her fiancé Jeff Diehl of Red Lion; seven grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Kayla, Kendall, Kaden, Dustin, and Bill; a brother, Gerald Smith and a sister, Leola Nace. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Knisely and his nephew Jeff C. Knisely. Memorial contribution may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belford Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
