RED LION – Mervin E. Newcomer, 78, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred L. (Eppley) Newcomer to whom he was married for 48 years on Jan. 21, 2015. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion with his pastor, The Rev. Ron Doverspike officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born March 29, 1936 in York a son of the late Noah and Jennie H. (Glatfelter) Newcomer, he was a graduate of William Penn Senior High. Mr. Newcomer retired in 1998 from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 520. He was member of Bethany U.M. Church, Yorkana Rod and Gun Club, Red Lion American Legion, and the former Moose Lodge. Mervin’s passions were hunting and spending time with his family. He was a baseball fan and enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Newcomer had also taught welding at the former York Vo-Tech. He was a veteran of the PA Army National Guard. In addition to his wife, Mr. Newcomer is survived by a son, Brad E. and wife Gretchen Newcomer of York; a daughter, Shannon K. Mayes of Red Lion; two grandsons, Anthony W. Mayes, II and wife Lauren and Brandon M. Mayes and wife Dawn; a great grandson, Decker; a brother, Marlyn and wife Mary Ann Newcomer and their daughter, Charisse Rossi all of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by a son, Dana E. Rexroth; and a son in law, Anthony W. Mayes. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
