Wellsburg. New York Merrill B. "Blackie" Kellogg, Age 89 formerly of East Smithfield, PA passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Merrill was born December 15, 1920 in East Smithfield, PA son of the late Fountain Eugene and Mary Jane (Kelley) Kellogg. Following graduation from high school Merrill entered the United States Army. He served his country from 1942 to 1945 in WWII going to New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was married to the former Dorothy L. Andrus and they celebrated many happy years together. Merrill was a farmer and also worked at Thatcher Glass. Later he was employed in the Stock Room at Westinghouse where he retired on April 1, 1983. In his spare time Merrill loved spending time in the outdoors and enjoyed fishing or hunting. Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy L.( Andrus) Kellogg of Horseheads, NY, a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Joe Vonderchek of Horseheads, NY, his son Brent Kellogg of Lockwood, NY, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Merrill was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Georgia Tompkins in 1999 and 12 siblings. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 6 to 7 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. His service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7PM with Rev. Tim Maynard of the Grace Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, PA.
