Merle E. Caldwell

SHILOH Merle E. Caldwell, 88, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Providence Place Senior Living in Dover, PA. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Mentzer) Caldwell to whom he was married for many years. A graveside service will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Suburban Memorial Gardens, 3875 Bull Rd., Dover, PA, 17315. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born July 7, 1926, he was a son of the late Robert and Vesta (Aumen) Caldwell. A United States Navy veteran, he was a member of the American Legion. He worked as a carpenter and built hospital equipment with Thonet Industries. He is survived by his son, Thomas S. Caldwell and wife Paula of East Berlin; two grandsons, Thomas Caldwell, Jr. of Philadelphia, and Eric Caldwell and wife Megan of Jacksonville, NC; and one sister, Virginia Yohn of Blair County. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Caldwell; and three brothers, Cloyd, Ralph and Donald Caldwell.
