Melanie L. (Newcomer) Holtzapple

DOVER-Melanie L. (Newcomer) Holtzapple, 58, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 at York Hospital. She was the loving wife of Robert E. Holtzapple to whom she was married to for 34 years. A celebration of life memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Mrs. Holtzapple was born August 10, 1952 in York, a daughter of the late Spencer L., Jr. and Ruth H. (Houseal) Newcomer. She was a 1970 graduate of West York High School, a 1974 graduate of York College earning a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and continued her studies at Millersville University earning a Master's Degree. She then went on to teach Kindergarten and First Grade for the Dover Area School District for 22 years, most recently at Lieb Elementary. Melanie loved swimming, reading about the civil war, listening to music, and enjoying her and Robert's flower garden. She also enjoyed golfing with her husband and family vacations to N.J. beaches, but her favorite thing to do was watch her son play tennis and spend quality time with him. In addition to her husband, Robert, Mrs. Holtzapple is survived by a son, Drew Robert Holtzapple of Dover; a sister Stephanie N. Carl and husband, James F. of Harrisburg; beloved dog, Buddy; three cousins; mother-in-law, Geraldine Holtzapple; great-grandmother-in-law, Treva Euculano; sister-in-law, Sue Doll; and two brother-in-laws, Lester and Anthony Holtzapple. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Melanie's memory may be made to her son, Drew Robert Holtzapple towards his college education.
