JACOBUS - Mary Viola (Jackson) Gladfelter, 93, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Manor Care - Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Clair "Bud" Gladfelter with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 1985. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 16, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church, 200 North Main Street, Jacobus with Pastor Randy S. Hughes officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday and 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Christ U.M. Church cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mary was born September 14, 1916 in Springfield Twp., York, a daughter of the late John W. and Lottie A. (Sheffer) Jackson. She tended farmers markets in the 1940's selling fresh chickens and farm produce. Mrs. Gladfelter was employed by David Suit Co. and Merry Mites until 1962 when she fulfilled a life-long dream to go into Nursing. She did private duty nursing until 1979. Mary enjoyed quilting, tending her flower and vegetable gardens, and being surrounded by her ever-growing family. She was a life member of Christ U.M. Church in Jacobus. In her early years she taught Sunday school and helped organize the children's "Mission Band" program. She served on Church Council and as Church Historian, as well as, being a member of the Busy Bee's Sunday School Class. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary for Goodwill Fire Co. and a member of Leisure Club in Jacobus. Mary is survived by a son, Dean Gladfelter of Goshen, IN; six daughters, Joyce Johnson of Red Lion, Jeannette Curry, Sandra McDonald, and Geraldine Godfrey all of York, and Connie Miller and Linda Warfel of Jacobus; a foster son, John Michael Jackson of Titusville, FL; 17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; three brothers, Roy Jackson of Red Lion and Lester and Robert Jackson both of York; and two sisters, Myrtle Myers of Jacobus and Evelyn Smith of Shrewsbury. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dena Lyn Gladfelter; two brothers, Paul and John A. Jackson; and a sister, Dorothy Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clair and Mary Gladfelter Endowment Fund of Christ U.M. Church, 200 N. Main St., Jacobus, PA 17407 or to Asera Care Hospice, 44 Bowman Rd., York, PA 17408.
