Mary Shoemaker

Mary Elizabeth (Buckingham) Shoemaker died on Friday, December 30,2016 at Rest Haven York. She was the wife of the late Mr. William Herbert Shoemaker, Sr., who died on December 11, 2001. The couple married in 1940. Born on March 12, 1914 in York, the daughter of the late L E W Buckingham and Elsie Bell Buckingham. In 1959 she received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tulsa. Mary taught in the North Brunswick, N.J. public schools before retiring in 1975. In 1981, she and Bill moved to York. Mary loved her family, her God and her church. She was a Christ-like and vivacious person who her family and friends will miss. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Mary Shoemaker is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Lobley and her husband Larry of Wichita Falls, TX; a son William Herbert Shoemaker, Jr. and his wife Linda of Charleston, SC; Daughter-in-law, Barbara, widow of son, Thomas W. Shoemaker, and her husband Glenn Gruber of Prospect, CT; two grandsons, Daniel Shoemaker and wife Kim of Danbury, CT and Clifford Shoemaker and wife Rebekah Of Prospect, CT; two granddaughters, Laura Lobley of Austin, TX and Lana Lobley of Wichita Falls, TX; two great grandchildren, Madelynn and Benjamin Shoemaker; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wendell Shoemaker, who passed on June 18, 2000 and three brothers, Henry, James, and Lewis Buckingham.
