Mary Pauline Mortorff

RED LION- Mary Pauline Mortorff, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the home she shared with her daughter, Nancy Imhoff. Born on March 16, 1910, she was the daughter of William H. Glassmyer and Mary Ann (Nace) Glassmyer/Gemmill. Following graduation in 1928 from the first mid-year class held at William Penn Senior High School, she was employed by York Machinery and Supply for $10 per week. She later was employed as an Investigator for the Department of Public Assistance and later as a stenographer for the Medusa Portland Cement Company retiring at age 62. She quickly became bored as a volunteer because “they didn’t give me enough to do.” Pauline then went on to become secretary to three consecutive ministers at Grace United Church of Christ, retiring at age 100. An avid fan of the Phillies, she attended her first and only professional baseball game when the team won the 1980 World Series in the 7th game at Philadelphia. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four grandsons, John, David, Dan and Will Imhoff; six great grandsons; two great granddaughters; a niece, Linda Glassmyer; and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, William H. Glassmyer, Jr.; half brother, Charles Nace; and nephews Conrad and Ronald Glassmyer. The family wishes to thank the staff of Visiting Angels and Hospice for administering comfort, care and peace to Pauline. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
