Mary Louise Fitz

Mary Louise Fitz, 87, passed away in the afternoon of February 23, 2021. She was the daughter of the late John H. Sieling and Katie M. (Hartman) Sieling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale David Fitz and her brother, Vernon Sieling. She is survived by her three children, Steven and wife Laura (Richardson) Fitz of York; Elaine and husband Roger Ward of Georgetown, KY; and Dean and wife Deanna (Elliott) Fitz of Fort Collins, CO; her 8 grandchildren Matthew Fitz, York; Timothy Fitz, Mountain View, CA; Rachel Ward, Berkeley, CA; Kara Ward, St. Louis, MO; Brett Fitz, Memphis, TN; Samantha (Sami) Fitz, Alexys (Lexi) Fitz, and Kristin Fitz all of Fort Collins, CO; and her great granddaughter Ruby Wixted, Mountain View, CA. Mary grew up on a farm in New Freedom, PA. She attended a one room school through the 8th grade and later studied and passed her GED. She and her husband moved to York where they raised their family. She worked at various jobs through the years including work on a farm, in a sewing factory, in a canning factory, at Spring Grove Hospital Center, at Barley Nursing Home, as co-owner of a laundromat, and eventually retired from Schmucks Cleaners and Tailors in Spry. As a cancer survivor, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society making personal visits. She was a long time and faithful member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling, beach trips with family, and attending ballgames. In her later years she enjoyed new friends at Normandie Ridge Retirement Community. A private funeral service was held for family on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel with Dr. Roger Ward officiating. Burial followed at New Fairview Church of the Brethren.
