Mary Jane Pyle

YORK – Mary Jane (Waldrop) Pyle, 79, passed away June 30, 2023 at Yorkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of Larry L. Pyle, to whom she was married for 55 years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, July 10, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, PA. Officiating the service will be Certified Celebrant Amy M. Favorito. A viewing will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Sunday, July 9 and 10:00AM-11:00AM, Monday, July 10, at the funeral home.

Born March 10, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Myra (McPherson) Waldrop. Mary Jane attended high school in Senatobia, Mississippi where her father owned a clothing store.

After graduating high school, Mary attended college at Delta State University and Northwest Mississippi Community College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. After college, Mary was an English teacher in Panama City, Florida at Everett Junior High School. This is where she met her husband Larry on a blind date on New Year's Eve while Larry was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base.

Mary loved going out to restaurants every weekend with her husband. She enjoyed crabs and crab legs. Her favorite colors were yellow and green. She enjoyed going to the movies (Horror and Sci Fi), shopping, QVC, attending yard sales, vacationing at Chincoteague, VA and traveling to Disney World with her grand kids, listening to 50’s and 60’s music (especially Elvis), but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and dogs Sophie and Minnie. Mary described her grandchildren as “her world.”

Mrs. Pyle is survived by her husband, Larry L. Pyle; their two children Christopher Pyle and his wife Phonthip of Spring Grove, as well as Melanie Hoopes of Spring Grove; four grandchildren, Cody Stevens, Malorie Pyle, Brady Hoopes and Leah Hoopes. She is preceded in death by her brother, Gene Waldrop and her parents Raymond Waldrop and Myra Waldrop (McPherson).
