Mary F. Shon

RENOVO - Mary Frances Biondi Shon, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 2, 2018. She was born April 10, 1939 in Renovo and was the only child of Ralph A. & Devona I. (Bittner) Biondi. Mary graduated from St. Joseph High School and attended St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. On August 5, 1961, she married Thomas Francis Shon of Renovo at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mary and Tom had two children; Thomas David Shon of St. Mary’s, PA and Ann Marie (Shon) Shaffer of Jamison, PA. She leaves behind three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; Kyle Gietler of Cheektowaga, NY, Cory Shon of Niagara Falls, NY, Abby Marie Shaffer of Leesburg, VA, and Briella Shon of Niagara Falls, NY (great granddaughter). Mary lived in Shinglehouse, PA for 40 years and attended St. Theresa Catholic Church. While there, she worked at various places including St. Francis Hospital, Olean, NY, Hewitt Manor Nursing Home in Shinglehouse, PA, and Adelphia Cable in Coudersport, PA for many years. Mary fought many illnesses throughout her life but simply could not fight any longer. The years of chemotherapy and radiation she endured did significant damage to her body. After suffering a broken hip from a fall in August of 2015, her health rapidly declined. Mary was an incredible woman. At age 35, she suffered a stroke from which she fully recovered. At age 40, she was widowed. When she was 47, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. For 32 years she was a cancer fighter, survivor, and fighter for others. Despite all her treatments, she was always a happy person and had a smile for everyone. Please remember her for her smile. She loved to knit and was a talented crafter. Mary also loved to read. She was a huge animal lover and was a devoted “pet Mom” to several dogs over the years, including Sam, Fifi, Angel, Tootsie and Lucy. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas on June 2, 1979, her father Ralph on June 2, 1983, her second husband Benjamin Stonemetz on September 1, 2000, and her mother Devona on November 14, 2006. She will be greatly missed and remembered always by her children Tom and Annie who loved her dearly. As we are mourning the loss of our Mom, we know that others in Heaven are rejoicing in her arrival. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo with the Rev. Joseph Orr officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. Maxwell Funeral Home, Renovo has charge of arrangements.
