WELLSBURG, NY - Mary Ellen (Freeman) Berry, of Centerville Road, Ridgebury Township, PA life came to an end on September 27, 2011 following a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Mary was born April 4, 1948 in Elmira, NY daughter of the late Jess and Louise (Lutz) Freeman. She married Forrest “Ted” Berry on May 6, 1967 and they celebrated 44 years together. She was employed by the Athens School District at Gladys Burnham School in Bentley Creek, PA where she worked in the cafeteria. Mary also worked for various area families as a private housekeeper. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and past member of the Ridgebury Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed traveling to Florida, watching NASCAR and her canine friends. She found great joy spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her loving husband and best friend of 44 years Forrest “Ted” Berry of Centerville, PA. son, Jeffrey C. Berry of Centerville, grandchildren, Jeffrey Dylan Berry and Marissa Eileen Berry both of Centerville, sisters, Katherine Storch of Pine City, NY, Joyce Squires & Paul Zinck of Centerville, aunts Theo & Richard Johnson of Elmira, Betty Freeman of Centerville and Audrey Lutz of Elmira, sisters-in-law, Irene Adams of Rochester, NY, Donna Berry of Watkins Glen, Carol & Roy Quimby of Oregon, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Doris (Freeman) Squires. Mary wants to thank all the Doctors and Staff at the Falck Cancer Center both in the Chemotherapy and Radiation and to Guthrie Hospice for all of their loving special care. Family and friends are invited to call Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 1 to 3 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Her memorial service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 3 PM with Rev. Jeremiah Moynihan officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Hanlon Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are directed to the Falck Cancer Center, 600 Roe Avenue, Elmira New York 14905.
