Mary Ellen (Bode) Forsythe

YORK - Mary Ellen (Bode) Forsythe, 79 died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at York Lutheran Home on Sprenkle Drive. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth Eugene Forsythe. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York, PA, 17401. Her pastor, the Rev. Diane G. Wenthe will be officiating. Burial will be private at the request of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Forsythe was born April 15, 1930 in York, a daughter of the late Herman Bode and Grace Myers. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1948. Mary Ellen was a homemaker who was known to family and friends as a wonderful cook and baker. She was a long-time cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with the disease in 1971. Mary Ellen was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. A former member of the York Art Association, she was a talented artist. One of her favorite subjects to paint was the York County landscape. Many of her oil paintings had won numerous awards at the York Fair over the years; including several Best of Show awards. Mrs. Forsythe is survived by two sons, Scott Forsythe of York, and Kevin Forsythe and wife, Anne Marie of Hubert, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Amanda, and Erin; two sisters, Delia (Myers) Senft, and Karen (Myers) O'Connor both of York; a brother Michael Myers of York; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-father, Eugene Myers formerly of York. In lieu of flowers, the family request a donation in Mary Ellen's name be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
