WEST YORK Mary E. (Witmer) Wantz, 89, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of the late Clarence E. Wantz. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, February 14, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Pastor Judy M. Bupp officiating. A visitation will be held from 12-1:00 PM Monday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born September 13, 1921 in York a daughter of the late Theodore Witmer and the late Pauline E. (Kuhn) Witmer Eckenrode, she was a retired seamstress from Bernstein Sewing Factory where she had worked for 40 years. Mrs. Wantz was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church and its Half Century Fellowship, 4-5s Fellowship, and United Methodist Womens Society. One of her proudest moments was when she earned her G.E.D. at the age of 62. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, word finds, and going to Wegmans Grocery Store. Mrs. Wantz had wonderful friends and loved spending time with all of her friends and family. Mrs. Wantz is survived by a daughter, Gwendolyn J. and husband William Markey of Dallastown; a son, Elwood B. and wife Cindy Wantz of York; five grandchildren, Michele Hummel, David and Suzanne Markey, Bonni Carpenter, and Bradley Wantz; ten great grandchildren, Allyson and Andrew Hummel, Zachari, Jayden, and Sienna Markey, Nathan and Michael Kyle, and Joseph, Miranda, and Kady Carpenter; and a sister, Betty Reedy of New Oxford. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Eckenrode. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Assoc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to the Salvation Armys Camp Ladore, PO Box G, Waymart, PA 18472.
