WILLIAMSPORT - Mary E. Sweeting, 62, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her residence. She was the first baby to be born in Devine Providence Hospital in Williamsport on June 22, 1951 and was the daughter of late William L. Sweeting and Adalena I. (Fairfax) Sweeting who survives. Mary was a member of the YMCA and volunteered at the SPCA. She really enjoyed watching cooking shows, the New York Yankee’s, children, dogs and just being around people. She was the poster child for the Crippled Children Society and she was an activist for people with disabilities. Mary was a very special person who made people smile and touched the lives of everyone that she came in contact with. In addition to her mother Adalena, Mary is survived by two sisters; Pearl A. Sweeting and Phyllis M. Sweeting both of Harrisburg, one godchild; Kendra I. Browning, numerous cousins, adopted family friends, the other residents at the group home, her life long friend; Patsy Caseman and Mr. Coton, her four legged furry friend. In addition to her father, Mary was preceded in death by one brother; William L. Sweeting, Jr., her paternal and maternal grandparents and many other family members. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hope Enterprises, Inc., 2404 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17703 or to SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701. A public viewing will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2013 at Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street, Williamsport PA 17701 followed by the funeral at 11:00a.m. Burial will take place in St. Boniface Cemetery, Williamsport at a later date at the convenience of the family.
