LEWISBURG - Mary E. (Strahan) Sampsell, 81, died Tuesday, February 02, 2016 at Riverwoods, Lewisburg. She was born on October 14, 1934 in New Columbia and was the daughter of the late Levi and Cora (Dershem) Strahan. On May 23, 1953 Mary was married to the late Francis Eugene “Gene” Sampsell and they celebrated 45 years of marriage until his death on June 29, 1998. She was a former member of the Four Square Gospel Church, Buffalo Cross Roads, she also attended various local churches over the years and most recently she attended the Community Church at Riverwoods. Mary enjoyed bingo, flowers, gardening, canning, baking, participating in activities through the Senior Citizens Recreation Center of Lewisburg, reminiscing at her class reunions with her class mates of the one room school house. Most of all she took pride in her family and loved spending time with them. Mary worked for Head Start, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg. She also spent many years as a foster grandmother. Mary is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law; William C. “Bill” and Suzanne Sampsell of Mifflinburg and Wayne L. Sampsell of Sunbury, five daughters and two sons-in-law; Judy and Larry Braden of Sunbury, Janet Matters and her companion Peter Kretski of Sunbury, Paula and Wayne Klingman of Mifflinburg, Roberta Snyder of Watsontown and Esther and Stephen Lenhart of N.J., 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two brothers and one sister-in-law; James and Trannie Strahan of New Columbia and Robert Strahan of Herndon, one sister; Alice Bickel of Lewisburg along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, two sons; Brian E. and Randy A. Sampsell, two grandchildren; Randy and Robert Sampsell, two brothers; John and Calvin Strahan and one sister; Catherine Lloyd. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Janet Weise Children’s Hospital, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822 A public viewing will be held Sunday, February 07, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton and again on Monday, February 08, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:00a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Mike Reece of Deleware Run Wesleyan Church of Watsontown officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
