Mary E. Mathias

MANCHESTER- Mary E. (Hartman) Mathias, 62, of Newberry Township, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at York Hospital. She was the wife of John E. Mathias. The couple celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on September 14, 2018. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on December 29, 2018 at Trinity (Roth’s) United Church of Christ, 6417 Church Rd. in Spring Grove, with a visitation from 1-2 p.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mrs. Mathias was born in York on July 5, 1956, the daughter of Dorothy “Dot” (Ilgenfritz) Hartman of Spring Grove and the late Clair Hartman. She worked for the former New York Wire Company in Mount Wolf for ten years and the former Continental Wire in West York for ten years and then more recently for Darrenkamp’s Grocery Store in Newberry Township. Mrs. Mathias was a very spiritual and kind person. She was a 1974 graduate of York Vo-Tec. She enjoyed reading, writing, documenting, and journalism. The same date she went to be with the Lord, she had miscarried twins’ years earlier. Mrs. Mathias leaves a daughter, Yolonda J. Smith and her husband Adam of Manchester; a granddaughter, Samantha Smith; a brother, Clair Hartman, II and his wife Judy of Spring Grove; a sister, Karen Stambaugh and her husband Blaine of West York; and two nieces, Tiffany and Nicole.
