Mary E. (Manila) Swanson

ALLENTOWN - Mary E. Swanson, 84, formerly of Renovo passed away, Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Phoebe Nursing Home, Allentown where she was a resident for the past three years. Mrs. Swanson was born on May 14, 1922 in Renovo. She was the daughter of the late Berardo and Adeline (Cozzi) Manila. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Renovo High School and the Goodwin School of Business in Williamsport. She was married to J. Charles "Chuck" Swanson on October 30, 1954 in St. Joseph Church. They recently celebrated their 52 wedding anniversary. Mrs. Swanson worked as a dispatch clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad until retiring in 1987. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Elks lodge and enjoyed bowling and athletics. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Chuck (Nancy) Swanson, Jr of Tallmadge, OH and a daughter, Valerie A. (Bryan) Tripp of Schnecksville, PA. She was also blessed with six grandchildren (Chad, Corey, Ashlee, Danika, Kylie and Jayme). Also surviving are one brother, Ron Manila of Drexel Hill, PA and two sisters, Eleanor McNutt of Dresher, PA and Gloria Templeman of North Whales, PA. She was preceded in death by her sister Lydia Jones. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at noon at St. Joseph's Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo with Rev. Donald E. Boslett officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo, PA 17764 Arrangements are being handled by Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo.
