YORK - Mary E. [Jackman] Smith, 83, formerly of Beulah, MI, died Monday, November 12, 2007 at Colonial Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 15, 2007 at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 15 North Broad Street, York. Burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born May 6, 1924 in Toledo, OH, to the late Ralph B. and Elizabeth [White] Jackman, she graduated from Scott High School in Toledo in 1942. She married Albert Tompkins in 1947. Mr. Tompkins died in 1962. She was then married to Donald C. Smith in 1963 until his death in 1999. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and reading, and she also enjoyed doing volunteer work in her later years. While living in York, she attended First Church of Christ, Scientist. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Anne E. and husband Tracy Staver of Cincinnati, OH and Sarah J. Nelson of St. Joseph, MI; two sons, Ben T. and wife Barbara Tompkins of Seven Valleys and Randy A. and wife Phyllis Tompkins of Monroe, MI; a stepdaughter, Linda K. Sheehan of Prescott Valley, AZ; two stepsons, Gordon E. Smith of Phoenix, AZ and Gary Smith of Traverse City, MI; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude "Trudy" Wheeler of Holland, OH. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher M. Tompkins and a sister, Helen Jackman.
