YORK TOWNSHIP- Mary E. (Chronister) Lehman, 96, of York died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Rest Haven in York. She was the wife of the late Reverend Murray P. Lehman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Rd. in York, with a viewing from 10- 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Paul W. Bentzel and Pastor Donald E. Myers will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Lehman was born in York on February 15, 1916, daughter of the late Lloyd and Beulah (Ilyes) Chronister. She and her husband owned and operated their fruit and poultry farm and operated a stand at the Farmer’s Market in York for over 60 years. Mrs. Lehman was a life member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren in York, where she sang on the choir. Her husband served as a minister at the church for many years. The Lehman Center in York was named in honor of Murray and Mary Lehman, through the Church of the Brethren Children’s Aid Society. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Lehman leaves two sons, Philip Lehman and his wife Donna of York, David Lehman and his wife Kathleen of York; a daughter, Nancy Elslager and her husband Paul of Chandler, AZ; Michael Bryan of York was loved and raised like a son. She also leaves seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a brother, Harold Chronister of York. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Chronister and two sisters, Dorcas Chronister and Arlene Stremmel.
