Mary E. (Amspacher) Shumaker

YORK-Mary E. (Amspacher) Shumaker, 91, entered Heaven to enjoy eternal life won for her through the death and resurrection of her Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 19, 2011. She died surrounded by loved ones and under the compassionate care of the staff at The Haven at Springwood, Assisted Living. She was the loving wife of the late Lloyd E. Shumaker to whom she was married 49 years. A Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at York First Church of God, 503 Vander Avenue, York, PA, 17403, with the Rev. Glenn Detter officiating. Viewings will be held 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory,Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, and 9-10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial following the service will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in Dallastown. Mrs. Shumaker was born January 3, 1920 in York, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Helen (Neilson) Amspacher. She was a former employee of York College, where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 1982. She was also a former employee of Jasons Shirt Factory. Mrs. Shumaker was a member of York First Church of God for 63 years where she served as President of the Council, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, youth leader, womens group president, and choir member. She was also a member of the Red Lion Senior Center. Mrs. Shumaker loved gardening, creating stained glass pieces, and collecting beautiful dishes and glassware. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Egypt, Israel, Hawaii, and across the U.S.A. Mrs. Shumaker is survived by a son, Richard E. Shumaker and wife, Lenita of Clayton, CA; two daughters, Catherine V. Winemiller of Winterstown, and Nancy L. Baublitz and husband, Dean of York; and a brother, Rev. James Amspacher of Fergus Falls, MN. She was the loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and two grandsons. Memorial contributions may be made to York First Church of God.
