AVOCA- Mary (Druffner) Murphy, 93, of Main Street, Avoca, died Saturday morning at the Heritage House, VNA Hospice Unit, Wilkes-Barre after a short illness. She was a life long resident of Avoca. Born in March 5, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary (Harte) Druffner. She was the wife of the late Leo F. Murphy, former U.S. Postal Superintendent of Avoca, Duryea, and Wyoming branches. They were married for 57 years. She was a 1932 graduate of Scranton Central High School and a 1936 graduate of Marywood University. She was employed as a teacher in the Pittston Area School District. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was devoted to her Catholic faith In addition to her husband; Leo F. Murphy, Sr. she was preceded in death by a son, Leo Jr., sisters, Margaret Vahey and Christine Druffner Surviving are; three daughters, Rosemary Warneke, Laurel, MD, Anne Sharkey and her husband, Dr. Thomas G., Moosic, Joan Fasullo, and her husband, Leonard, Wilmington, DE three sons, Atty. Joseph A. Murphy and wife, Rosemary, Dunmore, John Murphy-Pittston, Paul Murphy and wife, Joanne, Groton, Connecticut, 21 grandchildren including Atty. Patrick J. Murphy and his wife, District Judge Laura Turlip Murphy, Peckville, Atty. Kathleen E. Holmes, Lancaster, and Dr. Christine Murphy Policare, Mechanicsburg, 16 great grandchildren, sister, Louise A. Druffner, Dallas, sister in law, Mary Adonizio, Hughestown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 AM from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Mary's Church, Avoca. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice, 80 E. Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 or a charity of the donor's choice.
