Mary A. (Ruby) Patterson

YORK - Mary A. (Ruby) Patterson, 90, passed away on Sunday April 18, 2021 at her residence. Mary was the wife of the late Bruce R. Patterson Sr. The couple was wed for 59 years until his passing 2008. A Celebration of Life service will be on Thursday April 22, 2021 beginning at 11AM at the Heffner Funeral Chapel, 1551 Kenneth Rd. with an hour viewing prior to the service. Pastor Alan Harbold will be officiating. Burial will be at Lebanon Lutheran Cemetery. A time of viewing will be Wednesday April 21, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. All PA DOH guidelines and gathering restrictions are to be followed. Born in York on July 9, 1930, Mary was the daughter of the late Bert E. and Helen I. (Hauff) Ruby. She was employed in her earlier years at J.M. Fields and Jacobson Shirt Factory but spent most of her life as a housewife. Mary was a permanent fixture at the Northeastern Senior Center and attended many Blue Grass dances in York county – as she loved to dance. She was the most loveable person ever – always with a “hello and God Bless you”. Mrs. Patterson attended Mt. Washington U.C. Church for many years. She was a hard worker and loved gardening. Mary was the kind of person who never met a stranger, she just loved people. Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children; Norma P. Hoover and her husband, Ken of York; Susan M. Shiffer and her husband, Jim of York; Bruce R. Patterson Jr. and his wife, Dot of Lancaster; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Bill Ruby, Mike Ruby and Don Ruby; and sister Alice Wales. She also leaves a companion-Raymond Gingerich. Mary was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Ruby, Dave Ruby, Bobby Ruby and John Ruby; sister Jeananne St. Clair and a granddaughter, Jolene Donelan. The family would like to thank all of the associates with Hospice and Community Care who took such wonderful care of Mary for almost four months.
