Watch Video Tribute: YORK - Mary A. Lewis, 79, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at the York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Dr. She was the wife of Robert D. Lewis who died January 26, 2008. The couple had been married for 57 years at the time of Mr. Lewis's passing. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York with her pastors, the Rev. Kevin T. Shively and the Rev. Diane G. Wenthe, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Viewings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Mrs. Lewis was born March 23, 1930, in York. She was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Martha (Clay) Grissinger. She was a 1948 graduate of William Penn High School. She was also a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was a former member of both the Sunday school and church choir. She was also a Sunday School teacher. For many years she also served as a Girl Scout leader at church. She had been a very active supporter of Lutheran Social Services over the years. She was one of the group's original volunteers at the time of its inception and continued her volunteer work even after becoming a resident herself. She especially enjoyed helping with the Founder's Day festivities. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her two daughters, Sandy Dressel and husband, Jeffrey of Dallastown and Beth Lefever of York; three grandchildren, Amber Liebgott and husband, Keith, Nicole Dressel, and Jodie Lauber and husband, Tom; and four great grandchildren, Alison, Benjamin, Carson and Dillon.
