Martin H. Sowers

York—Martin H. Sowers, 92, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Beatrice R. (Frantz) Sowers and Marion K. (Krauss) McNeill-Sowers. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Monday April 18, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 2650 Freysville Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356 with his pastor, the Rev. Paul N. Frank officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM, Monday at church. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born August 6, 1923 in Dover, he was a son of the late Oliver F. and Regina E. (Doll) Sowers. He was employed with Cole Steel as a welder/foreman for 30 plus years until his retirement in 1986. A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Red Lion American Legion-Post 543, Emanuel Lutheran Church-Freysville and Longstown Village Bowling Team. Mr. Sowers is also survived by three children, Hope I. Criswell and her husband, Terry of Glen Rock, Martin H. Sowers, Jr., and his wife, Sheryn of York and Mark A. Sowers of Maysville, NC; two step sons, James McNeill of Cody, WY and Thomas McNeill of Vail, CO; 6 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 3 step great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jake C. Sowers of Dover and Raymond E. Sowers of Thomasville; three sisters, Martha R. Sigel of Dover, Anna M. Zeigler of York and Elnora Eyster of Dover and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 2650 Freysville Rd, P.O. 2, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
