Martha V. (Shaffer) Meckley

YORK- Martha V. (Shaffer) Meckley, 88, died on Saturday, August, 28 2010 at Manor Care Health Services- South. She was the wife of the late Leroy G. Meckley, who passed away on July 8, 2000. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with the Reverend John M. Woods officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Meckley was born on July 19, 1922, a daughter of the late Orie V. and Nora M. (Fritz) Shaffer. She retired from the Lutheran Home, where she worked as a nurse. Mrs. Meckley was an active member at Shiloh Lutheran Church. She was a member of AARP and volunteered at Pleasant Acres. Martha enjoyed making quilts, knitting, crocheting, needlework and playing piano. Most importantly she loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Meckley is survived by two sons, Robert Meckley and his wife, Eileen of York and Richard Meckley and his wife, Sandra of New Freedom; four daughters, Linda Weisser and her husband, Bart of York, Jane Lenhart and her husband, John of Red Lion, Cynthia Deme of York, and Patricia Franko and her husband, Wayne of Dillsburg; eight grandchildren, Mark, Bryan, Steven, John, Bill, Joe, Missy and Grant; four great grandchildren, Eric, Kyle, Christopher, and Benjamin; and four sisters, Gladys Rehmeyer of New Freedom, Dorothy Gracy of Brodbecks, Norma Wood of New Freedom and Bernice Gillespie of Parkton, MD. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth Shaffer, Larnid Shaffer, Walter Shaffer, and Malden Shaffer; and one sister, Mary Shaffer.
