Martha Jean Burrows

Renovo - Martha "Jean" Burrows, age 80, of S. Renovo, died at Bucktail Medical Center on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009. She was born in North Bend on Dec. 19, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph B. Desmond Sr. and Mary G. (Smith) Desmond. Jean was a life member of the Seventh Street United Methodist Church, worked for many years as an inspector at Sylvania Electric in Emporium and also at Lifetime Pools in S. Renovo. She was a member of the ladies aides at the S. Renovo Chapel and the United Methodist Women. She loved baking and cooking and doing crafts especially woodworking and ceramics. Jean was a people person who was always there to help anyone in need and she loved her family time especially with her grandchildren. On June 7, 1948 in Renovo, she married Wesley L. Burrows Sr. who preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1991. Surviving is her daughter: Beverly (Mahlon) Nevel of S. Renovo, sons: Wesley (Carolyn) Burrows Jr. of Beech Creek and Matthew (Beth) Burrows of Mill Hall. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Michelle, Carrie, Gregory, Katie, and Kelsey, brother: Joseph Desmond of Mill Hall, sisters: Joyce Culver of Kaufman, Texas and JoAnne Stellfox of Desoto, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney, in 1973 and two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Seventh Street United Methodist Church in Renovo at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Robert Pickering officiating. The family will receive friends at Maxwell Funeral Home. 205 Fifth St. from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Private family interment will take place in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorials are requested to the Seventh Street United Methodist Church.
