YORK- Martha J. (Mumma) Johnson, 89, of York, died Sunday October 7, 2007 at Manor Care Health Services North. She was married to the late John W. Johnson. A memorial service will be 1pm Friday, October 12, 2007 at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Road, York with her pastor, the Rev. Dennis A. Hummel officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is handling the arrangements. Martha was born December 12, 1917 in Mechanicsburg, a daughter of the late David and Miriam (Howard) Mumma. She helped start and was employed with the York Guidance Center as an office manager for ten years. Martha was a member of the Yorkshire United Methodist Church where she was very active. She was a layer speaker and a Sunday school teacher for the church. Martha belonged to the Lioness Club in York and was the President of A.B.W.A.- White Rose Chapter. She is described as a very intelligent person; she tutored for the York Literacy Counsel and was an author. Martha also was a very caring person and was a Compeer Volunteer for several years. Martha is survived by a son, Cary "Skip" and his wife, Margaret Johnson of Harrisburg; two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Robert Simpson of York and Patricia and her husband, Richard DeFeo of Ephrata; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, David Mumma of Lebanon; and her tabby cat "Taffy". A brother, Robert Mumma and a sister, Jean Mumma, precede her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Rd., York, PA 17402
