Martha E. Bentzel

THOMASVILLE – Martha E. (Musser) Bentzel, 88, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Misericordia Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late George E. Bentzel. A Celebration of LIfe Tribute Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Paradise Holtzschwamm Lutheran Church, 3241 Church Road, Thomasville with her Pastor, The Rev. Sigrid Hipkiss officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Holtzschwamm Union Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born May 28, 1933 in Manchester, Martha was the daughter of the late Christian and Anna (Doll) Musser. She was a 1950 graduate of Manchester High School. As a young adult, Mrs. Bentzel worked as a switchboard operator for a local York telephone company, employed by Alloy Rods and was a waitress at Lee’s Diner. As her children became school age, Martha worked in the cafeteria for Spring Grove Area School District. She dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children, being a wonderful cook and baker. Mrs. Bentzel enjoyed her garden and canning and was an active member at Paradise Holtzschwamm Lutheran Church and sang on the church choir. Mrs. Bentzel is survived by four daughters, Margo A. Ilgenfritz and husband Bryan of Spring Grove, PA; Carla S. Hengst and husband Rodney of Mertztown, PA; Beth K. Reindollar and husband Dave of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Dana M. Bentzel of Thomasville, PA; eight grandchildren, Jason and Justin Ilgenfritz, Allison and Aaron Hengst, Brittany Griffith, Melissa Hertzog, Rachel and Kaitlin Dennis; two great grandchildren, Claire and Morgan Griffith; a brother, Glenn Musser of Phoenixville, PA; and a twin sister, Mary Fetrow of York.
